Our Story

West Barns Village Hall was gifted to the village in 1901 by St Clair Cunningham. Since then, it has served many purposes. The Home Guard used it as a base during the war and historic events were celebrated in the hall.

Today it is a thriving hub of activity being used for gymnastics, yoga, bingo, ceilidhs, classes, weddings and many other things beside. It is run by an enthusiastic group of volunteers who work hard to preserve the history and secure the future of this charming building.

We welcome your ideas for activities and events and look forward to welcoming you very soon.

About us

We strive to empower our small village community by enabling interaction among neighbours during events and gatherings. We have always encouraged our community to ‘love local’ as we recognise the importance of place making and community building.

The West Barns Village Hall Committee is a Scottish Registered Charity (SC017955). We are a group of committed volunteers with a shared a passion for our village, its people and heritage.

The fundamental aim of the current Committee, founded in 2013, has been to maintain and manage the West Barns Village Hall, a much loved activity hub which has served the people of West Barns for over 120 years. We have worked hard to provide a programme of events and regular initiatives. We have created a safe and comfortable space which has served social, recreational and educational purposes. Through those efforts, we have promoted and supported the well-being of the community of West Barns and the surrounding areas.

Everything we have ever done was not for profit. All the money awarded through various grants, or earned through bookings, has been invested back into the village hall and our activity programme.
